So I Bought Skinny Jeans

SkinnyJeansMy husband sent me on a surprise trip to Minnesota last weekend and I bought skinny jeans. Because that’s what happens when I hang out with my girls. I do stuff like buy trendy clothing.

I’ve actually been wanting skinny jeans for a while, but never found ones I liked. Until now. (Thank you JC Penny clearance rack.) Now I’m on the hunt for some cute cowboy boots.

We had a great weekend. Exactly what I needed. One night we went out and heard live music and drank chocolate martinis and stayed out until midnight. We spent the next day in Minneapolis and did grown up things like wandered around an art museum, ate lunch at a Greek restaurant, shopped at consignment stores, drank wine in the afternoon and went out for sushi. The next day we hung out it our comfies and read books and drank lots of coffee.

It. Was. Awesome. The weekend away was exactly what I needed.

Don’t misunderstand me … I love my kids. They’re my favorite little people and by far my life’s greatest accomplishment. I wouldn’t trade my life for anything. But being a stay at home mom of two little ones is really hard for me. In the midst of long days at home, I often miss feeling like an accomplished, competent adult. The day to day life of raising kids is so demanding that it’s easy to lose perspective.

That’s why I needed this past weekend. I don’t know how my husband knew that I’d need this so badly, but somehow he picked the perfect timing for this gift. And I came home refreshed and fulfilled and ready to pour myself out for kids again.

It’s funny how just a little time away can restore perspective about what I really want in life.

  1. It was an amazing weekend for sure!! I had a great time. There is absolutely nothing wrong with needing time (or taking time) away from your kids. It shows them that you have a life outside of them (very healthy) and that it is just as important to take care of YOU as it is to take care of THEM. It’s not selfish in the least bit. I regularly have to sneak away, even for just a few hours, to recharge and refocus. Sometimes it means I miss events of theirs. That’s ok. My kids know I love them and am proud of them. 🙂 You are welcome to visit Casa de Carolina anytime!

  2. Proof of a good husband: when he knows just what you need. (Sometimes even before you consciously know it’s what you need!) I’m glad you were able to get away and have girlfriend time!

  3. Nicely said and I am in full agreement. It was awesome seeing you and exactly what I needed too! Just wish that I would have walked away with an awesome pair of skinnies too! 🙂
